Contour Mapping
Boat 4490 was on the water yesterday doing bottom contour mapping on the AICW (Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway), Elizabeth River, Coward Creek, Molasses Creek, Piney Point Creek, Dutchman Creek, and Beaver Dam Creek.
When we map the area waterways, we create a road map on the boat’s GPS, which allows us to respond quickly and safely. Having the road map is critical at night.
Anyone can find the AICW (Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway), but navigating Coward or Molasses Creek at night, that’s a real challenge. Last year we rescued a lost (and cold) kayaker in the area of those creeks.
