Cross-Training with Oak Island Fire Department
We are finally getting around to posting some photos of our recent surf launch training with Oak Island Fire Department. We did this joint surf-launch training on July 9, 2019 and have more photos to edit and videos to share in the coming days. Surf launching is our bread and butter. It is the most fun type of training we perform, but also the most hazardous.
When we arrive on scene, the fire department is almost always there first and we have enough of our own team members present to launch the surf boat without assistance. But it is possible that we could be short a person or two, and it is safer to launch the boat using 6 people, though it can be done with as few as 4 or even 2 if a serious enough situation presents itself. Since firefighters are likely to be there, we both thought it would be best to teach them how to help us launch the boat in case we ever need them. We also wanted them to “crew” the boat and very much appreciate them taking time out of their very busy summer schedule to train with us.
