Dog Out Too Far
We were dispatched, along with Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Police Department for a report of a large dog that was about 100 yards offshore after chasing some birds. He was leashed but pulled away from his owner to chase the birds and was reported to be struggling in the water and unable to return to shore. We responded with our surf-launch boat to the McGlamery Street beach access with a significant launch crew. As we were approaching the scene, we were notified by Oak Island Fire Department that the dog was safely back on the beach. We briefly met the owner and tired pooch as they were making their way off the beach for some R&R.
