Drone Featured on WECT TV News
We have been working for quite some time to add aerial drone capabilities to our fleet and toolbox, and are now ready to respond to emergencies using our DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise drone! This is not your “off-the-shelf” drone but rather a very advanced piece of aerial equipment that we will use for water rescues and other emergencies around the island. It is capable of flying up to 70 MPH, has advanced 4K and infrared cameras, a search light, a 100 decibel loudspeaker, and is capable of autonomous search operations. Oak Island Water Rescue has 3 pilots licensed to fly the drone under FAA Part 107 rules and licensing.
This morning, Bryan Reed from WECT TV News came out for a visit and to learn more about the drone and how we plan to use it. They aired the segment this evening and we very much appreciate them helping us get the word out about our expanding capabilities. Your kind donations are what makes this possible!
