We were dispatched to the beach near SE 72nd Street for a report that an elderly man walked into the ocean fully clothed and had disappeared under the water. We were cancelled enroute when it was determined the man was safe.
Like all such calls, we still respond “routine traffic” even after a call is cancelled. Routine traffic simply means no lights or sirens, driving the speed limit, stopping for red lights, etc. This allows us to verify the scene actually is safe and that everyone is properly accounted for before we return to the station.
