Fatal Medical Event on Beach
At 12:14 PM Oak Island Water Rescue, Oak Island Fire Department, Oak Island Police Department, Sunny Point FD EMS, and Brunswick County EMS responded for a water rescue requiring medical care at the SE 72nd St beach access. Bystander CPR with AED (from the St. James Beach Club) was in progress when public safety personnel arrived on scene.
We utilized 4482 to transport the patient and Oak Island Fire Department paramedics off the beach to Advanced Life Support EMS care. As always, Oak Island Police Department, Oak Island Fire Department, and Oak Island Water Rescue worked together to provide a coordinated emergency response. Excellent service was also provided by the paramedics from Sunny Point FD and Brunswick County EMS. Unfortunately, we later learned then gentleman did not survive this incident.
