Fundraiser for Jackson Boswell
Y’all probably know we are doing a September-long matching fundraiser to help us recover from Hurricane Isaias, and we very much appreciate your help! But we would like to make another request. Not for us, but to help out the family impacted by the near-drowning on Saturday here on Oak Island.
We responded to the Oak Island Pier on Saturday for a report of a 17 year old boy drowning. We knew our role would be limited to transporting him off the beach because he was already out of the water thanks to a hero, and CPR had been started by medically trained good samaritans. Even though this story has a happy ending, calls involving children are always the toughest ones we get.
Jackson was transported to #NHRMC by Brunswick County EMS, where he received world-class care. He was on a ventilator and sedated for a while, but is now awake, talking, requesting and eating #Bojangles, and getting better and stronger every day! He lives with Cerebral Palsy, and a Grand Mal Seizure was what caused his near-drowning.
The treatment he received saved his life, but as everyone knows, this level of medical care is not cheap. His family does not have insurance and, at the recommendation of Oak Island Angels, his mother started a #GoFundMe fundraiser to help pay for some of these bills. The Angels will also be organizing a Yard Sale fundraiser soon, so be on the lookout for that! We know that a lot of GoFundMe campaigns are fraudulent, but we have been in near constant contact with Jackson’s mother and can verify the authenticity of this fundraiser. His mother has nothing but kind words and praise for everyone on Oak Island, and we think it would be great to return some of that love back to the family.
Donating to help Jackson’s family is simple using the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/jackson-boswell-oakislandstrong
If you are unable to donate, please share this post or the link above. Sharing and spreading the information often has deep-reaching impact, far more than you may know.
