Investigate Male in Yellow Float
We were dispatched, along with Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Police Department, to the beach in the 4000 block of East Beach Drive for a report of a man on a float very far out in the water. We arrived with our surf-launch boat, drone, and large crew and began searching the water from land and air. Police made contact with the caller and she advised she had seen a man on a yellow float using her telescope from a 2nd row home, and that the man could not be seen with the naked eye. She had since lost sight of him. We searched the immediate area for quite some time and then moved slowly down the beach about 20 blocks continuing to look for the man. We saw nothing but water as the sunset gave way to darkness. We notified the United States Coast Guard and they made an announcement to all mariners. No float was ever found and nobody was reported to be missing.
