Kayaker in Distress Near Pier
At 7:15 PM, Oak Island Water Rescue, Oak Island Fire Department, and Oak Island Police Department were dispatched to the beach just west of the Oak Island Pier for a report of a kayaker who fell off his boat and was unable to make his way back to shore. We responded with our surf-launch boat 4491 and launched the boat to pick up the kayaker after observing him not making any progress towards the shoreline. When we arrived at the kayak the man told us he was tired and wanted a ride back to the beach. He was pulled into our boat and we towed the kayak back to shore. A couple of ladies on the pier and beach caught these very pretty shots of the sunset while we were doing our thing. Thanks!
