Near Drowning at Ocean Crest Pier
Just after the 4th of July fireworks show at the Oak Island Pier, we were dispatched to Ocean Crest Pier for a report of a near drowning. Our surf-launch boat crew was still in position at the Oak Island Pier waiting for the crowd and traffic to thin out, so the crew that was manning the station responded using Truck 4482.
A man was found under the pier by a fisherman. There were reports that he fell or was pushed from the pier, but this is unsubstantiated. The fisherman helped him to shore where he was attended to by paramedics from Oak Island Fire Department and Brunswick County EMS.
