Near Drowning
Today at 2:40 PM, we were dispatched along with Oak Island Fire Department, Oak Island Police Department, Brunswick County EMS, and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol for a near drowning at the McGlamery Street beach access (near the Oak Island Pier).
A man had been caught in a rip current but was rescued by other beachgoers and was already on the beach when when Oak Island Fire Department arrived. The victim was transported off the beach by our 4×4 truck, 4482.
The victim was in need of medical care and received treatment by Brunswick County EMS.
Today is a Red flag day because there is a high risk of rip currents. A man came very close to drowning today. Please stay out of the water for the next several days. The surf and rip current danger will only increase as the hurricane moves this direction.
