Overturned Pontoon Boat
Oak Island Water Rescue, Oak Island Fire Department, and Oak Island Police Department were dispatched for a pontoon boat overturned in the Montgomery Slough, near the 2500 block of West Pelican Drive. Boat 4490 responded to Blue Water Point boat ramp, but access to the overturned boat was made from West Pelican Drive using our newly donated Sea Eagle inflatable kayak.
The kayak allowed us to search the area around the overturned boat for victims but thankfully none were located. We then assisted United States Coast Guard Sector NC with vessel identification and investigating the incident.
Through that process, it was determined that the boat fell off an elevated boat lift during the previous night’s storm.
