Possible Boat Fire Off SE 58th Street
We were dispatched, along with Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Police Department, to the beach near SE 58th Street for a report of a boat 100 yards out that was possibly on fire. When we arrived, it was apparent the boat was actually a fairly large ship, was much further from shore, and what the caller thought were flames was actually halogen or mercury vapor lights. In fairness to the caller, the flicker of the bright lights did give the appearance of fire, and we always encourage everyone to err on the side of caution and call 911 to investigate.
