Possible Swimmer in Distress
We were dispatched, along with Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Police Department, at 3:36 PM to an area stretching from 6th Place East to the Ocean Crest Pier for a report of a swimmer very far out that was believed to be struggling. We arrived with a substantial crew, 2 trucks, a boat, and our drone. We searched the water in the area where the swimmer was reported to be from shore and the pier. The ocean conditions were quite rough and a strong wind from the south was present. The strong wind prevented us from launching the drone. After searching for about 30 minutes and finding nothing, we turned over any further investigation to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and United States Coast Guard.
