Report of Flares Seen Offshore
If you saw or heard us last night in the area of East 29th, we were responding, along with Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Police Department, to a report of flares seen well off-shore. There were thunderstorms off the coast creating lightning in the distance, but what was likely seen was “chaff” from military aircraft practicing in the area. As always, we prefer to investigate these things ourselves, in conjunction with the United States Coast Guard. So if you see what appears to be flares at night, don’t hesitate to call 911.
