Rip Current Water Rescue
Again from Emerald Isle, this time a video of a rip current rescue. Rip currents are deadly and widespread when the surf is up.
This is a common example where untrained rescuers attempted a swimming rescue, often with tragic results. This could have easily resulted in multiple drownings.
If you look carefully you will notice that even on a WaveRunner, the rescuer does NOT attempt to go straight back to the shore. Instead, he pulls the swimmer parallel to the shore for a short distance to get them out of the rip current before returning to the beach. Good job by the trained rescuers!
