Sometimes It Takes an Island

Saturday afternoon a young man nearly drowned while playing in the surf. This was a life threatening medical condition and he was placed on a ventilator at a local hospital.
Thanks to a whole bunch of helpful people, we are sharing with you a photo that Jackson’s parents shared in comments on our page. Doesn’t he look fantastic!
You may have read our posts about Jackson’s rescue, but if you want to hear from his parents and those who immediately jumped in to save him, check out this news story on WWAY TV News.
Our role in this type of medical emergency is limited as we are tasked with transporting the patient from the beach to the ambulance out on the hard road. It’s the paramedics from both Oak Island Fire Department and Brunswick County EMS who do the most critical work. Each agency fulfills their role with great teamwork.
They say it takes a village…
Sometimes you need more than a village; you need an Island.
