Two Float Calls in 20 Minutes
We responded to a call about a float or raft offshore near the Oak Island Pier. As we arrived, we learned the people involved were safely back on shore and were not in danger. We spoke with them, and their waving to a passing boat was mistaken as signaling for help. As we were returning to station, another dispatch to the same location about a possibly different float was received, so we returned to the scene. A member on the beach reported not seeing anything and we cancelled that call.
These calls may sound like annoyances, but we would much rather people still call 911 if there is any doubt about the safety of people on a float, raft, boat, or in the water. Of course we prefer everyone leave the inflatables at home or in the pool!
