Two Swimmers Swept Out from The Point
Oak Island Water Rescue, Oak Island Fire Department, Oak Island Police Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Brunswick County EMS, and the United States Coast Guard were dispatched to “The Point” for two swimmers who had been swept too far out.
Although the swimmers were from the Oak Island side of the inlet, the Brunswick County Central Communications (911 center) received a report that the swimmers were possibly on a sand bar or holding onto a buoy closer to Holden Beach, and Tri-Beach VFD’s boat was dispatched via mutual aid.
The boat from Tri-Beach VFD launched while our two 4×4 trucks and surf launch boat were arriving at the parking area. Their boat made contact with the swimmers and made sure they were safe.
This is exactly how mutual aid is supposed to work. All of the Oak Island agencies (FD, PD, & WR) were on scene on our side of the inlet, but the quickest access was on the Holden Beach side of the inlet.
Great job by the Tri-Beach rescuers and also BCSO Marine 2 who was on scene in the inlet.
