Unidentified Floating Object
Earlier this evening, Oak Island Water Rescue, Oak Island Fire Department, and Oak Island Police Department responded for a UFO (unidentified floating object) in the vicinity of the Oak Island Pier. The 911 caller was unable to identify the object and was concerned that it could be a float for children.
We don’t mention them enough but they are involved in every 911 call we respond to… C-Com, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Central Communications Center, does excellent work. When they received the call this evening they assumed the worst, just as we must do, until proven otherwise.
All three Oak Island public safety agencies arrived on scene and determined that it was a mylar birthday balloon. Thankfully it had come close enough to shore that we were able to venture into the surf and retrieve it. Here’s a photo of the gang, after cleaning up the vehicles, getting ready to part ways until the next mysterious adventure. Or at least until they gather to work on the building again tomorrow.
